Rewriting the
story of local news.

Report Local is the global home for Report for America and Report for the World. We strengthen independent local journalism by supporting the journalists, newsrooms, and ecosystems that communities rely on for trustworthy information.

We recruit and support talented journalists, help newsrooms build financial resilience, and connect local news efforts across borders. Our work ensures communities everywhere have the information they need to participate, make decisions, and hold power accountable.

In 2025, we made a strategic decision to step away from our longtime investment in content and editorial work in order to focus fully on scaling our flagship programs. This shift prompted a rebrand, and The GroundTruth Project is now known as Report Local. With nearly 1,000 journalists placed in hundreds of newsrooms worldwide, Report for America and Report for the World embody a journalist-first approach to strengthening newsrooms and rebuilding resilient local journalism ecosystems. Report Local now serves as the home for this work and is built to bring these proven, powerful programs to more communities.

This transition reflects who we are today: A global, community-rooted organization focused on strengthening local journalism ecosystems.
